Every month, the ACNB Bank at the Corner of Market Street & Patrick Street in Downtown Frederick lets a different local nonprofit use their display window as advertising for whatever they want!
Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County had the ACNB window during the month of July 2025 to advertise their yearly signature event – one that I’ve served on the planning committee of and volunteered at many times – Blue Crabs & Blue Prints. There’s live music, steamed crabs, a dunk tank, an ice cream food truck, the event has fantastic energy, and it’s one of my favorite to volunteer for (because I’ve always been one of the bartenders and I LOVE to interact with people all day that way).
This year they also asked me to help with their ACNB window and I was PUMPED to do it. I love getting to do art (or anything, really) that is completely new for me, and a window on a highly trafficked sidewalk was definitely brand new. I was all-the-way-in the second they asked.
Habitat gave me fairly free-reign on my design and helped me keep the lettering on brand. I asked Google what mediums were best for arting on glass, and chose chalk marker. Google said it was easy and I already had a ton of chalk markers at home (leftover from my Yogamour bathroom wall).
It was a fun process to figure out and you can see the entire thing in the video on this page. One of my favorite parts was actually that it was only in existence for one month. It gave the entire thing a sense of impermanence – something I couldn’t overthink for too long.
